Orthodontics

At times, in order to achieve or maintain a healthy and beautiful smile, we may recommend orthodontic treatment. Having a smile you are proud to show off makes you feel good about yourself and is an important part of anyone’s self-esteem.

Just as important, when an improper bite isn’t corrected, it can lead to physical problems including excess wear and sensitivity of certain teeth, pain in the jaw muscles and joints, and even gum difficulties. Dousman Family Dentistry works to minimize or eliminate these problems by using a full array of orthodontic techniques to move teeth into more ideal alignments. Almost any bite or spacing problem can be addressed through orthodontics!

Full Orthodontic Services For Our Patients

Dr. Schaeffer and Dr. Whalen provide orthodontic treatment as a service to our regular patients, ranging from simple interceptive treatments all the way to full brackets and wires, allowing you to receive this specialty dental care from doctors who already know you and your teeth.

When a patient has all of his/her adult teeth, a complimentary orthodontic consultation can be done by Dr. Schaeffer or Dr. Whalen to determine if there are spacing or bite problems that should be addressed through orthodontic treatment.

Common orthodontic treatments offered at Dousman Family Dentistry:

  • Spacers to create or maintain room for incoming teeth
  • Palatal expanders that can widen jaw arches while a patient is still growing.
  • Brackets and wires (braces)
  • Appliances to manage jaw alignment and growth related to the teeth. 70% of orthodontic treatment in children corrects overbites/overjets due to an underdeveloped lower jaw.
  • Removal of baby teeth and sometimes permanent teeth if necessary
  • Appliances to break habits such as thumb sucking or tongue thrust that are contributing to bite problems

Referral network of orthodontists

Once we’ve completed a consultation, we may learn that a patient requires more advanced treatment. In those cases, we are happy to refer our patients to our extensive network of board-certified orthodontists with whom we work closely.
