Children's Dentistry

Dousman Family Dentistry is a practice that offers a full spectrum of general dentistry services for patients from three to 103 years old! With our smallest patients, we have the opportunity to help them develop good dental health at a very young age.

Our goal in children’s dentistry goes beyond regular teeth cleanings or checking for cavities. It starts by creating a positive experience for children so they are comfortable with the dentist and they can be encouraged to develop good oral hygiene habits that last for the rest of their lives!

Family-friendly care and scheduling

Dousman Family Dentistry understands parents are busy, so we offer concurrent scheduling to accommodate multiple siblings and family members at the same time - a convenience that many of our patients really appreciate.

Another convenience is that we offer a wide range of dental services under one roof so we can provide care for most children’s dental needs right in our office. Preventive exams and cleanings are just the beginning. Our full-service dental office offers:

  • Fluoride treatments
  • Sealants
  • Fillings
  • Extractions
  • Mouth guards and night guards

Our doctors and staff are committed to ensuring all of our patients, and particularly our pediatric patients, are comfortable, relaxed, and pain free.

We offer a variety of treatment options, in consultation with parents, for those children who are anxious about their procedure. When there’s a need for diagnostic x-rays, we’ve invested in state-of-the-art digital technology, which has a number of benefits. It’s more comfortable for patients, it delivers less radiation, and the images are more precise and can be shown chair-side, right on the computer screen, so parents can see exactly what the doctor sees and better understand the diagnosis.

Interceptive Orthodontics

Many minor bite and spacing issues crop up when children are very young. By addressing them early on, sometimes you can avoid further orthodontic treatment in the future. Other times, early intervention is the first step in long-term, full orthodontic treatment.

As a convenience to our patients Dr Schaeffer and Dr. Whalen have taken courses in orthodontics which allows them to treat certain tooth misalignments in our office. We also partner with a strong network of respected orthodontists to whom we refer patients who need more complex orthodontic treatment. We can conduct an orthodontic screening on children as young as six to identify any potential problems.

We appreciate your trust in us, and we’ll do all we can to make your child’s visit with our doctors and staff a positive and relaxing experience.
