There are many reasons why permanent teeth erupt with a different appearance than primary teeth. It can be something quite normal related to remnants of a membrane called Nasmyth's Membrane adhering to the enamel as the tooth erupts through the gum tissue. This discoloration usually comes off on its own. Other causes of stained teeth include high fever during infancy while teeth are forming, too much flouride intake and medications.
